Louisville Metro Police officials released security footage Tuesday of what they said appears to show a black businessman firing a weapon at law enforcement officers before they return fire, killing him.
Police said David McAtee, owner of Yaya's BBQ, began to shoot"outside his business door" early Monday morning as officers worked to clear a parking lot at a nearby establishment and then began moving toward his business.Monday that both the Louisville Metro Police Department and the Kentucky National Guard were in the area working to disperse a crowd when they were fired upon."LMPD and the Kentucky National Guard returned fired resulting in a death.
At one point, roughly a dozen people start to hastily make their way inside his establishment through an open door. At around the 2:27 mark, McAtee can be seen reaching outside the doorway. Moments later he clutches his upper chest and eventually collapses to the floor. The second angle, at around 5:15, appears to show officers shooting toward the door, but who is standing there is obscured from view by a screen door.He was relieved of duty when state and local officials called for the release of officer body-camera footage, only to learn that the devices worn by officers on the scene had not been activated. A friend of mine noticed possible evidence of a bullet shot by police BEFORE McAtee appears to fire back. Please check out their analysis:
yes if you look at the video, the outside video he took the meat off the grill twice and carried them into the bldg. But that was before police and National guard showed up
Why silent tho'?
Why does this story title project excuses for LMPD & blame the dead chef DavidMcAtee? Just revisit your own prior interviews with FINALLEVEL & icecube & take another hard look at this disrespectful {coded} headline.
After Carefully reviewing the footage, I conclude that the officer fired at the can the woman was holding which caused Mr mcatee to return fire. The evidence is seen in the second video as the officers do not so much as flinch even after the can explodes.
Just don't see it. With all the rioting and looting, I would think many more people are carrying guns when they are at their place of business. Wouldn't be surprised if he did carry, but don't see a gun on him.
And where’s the shot of him holding a gun
I watched both versions. I kept waiting for the tongs to turn into a gun, but it didn't.
He goes from flipping meat to shooting at police for no reason. Come on now
Firstly, if the tear gas is to disperse crowds why are they trying to shoot it into the establishment? Second, it appears these were sitting down under the tent initially.
At the 2:27 mark man in green shorts also has a gun
People must be complete idiots if they don't notice at the 2:30 mark that a gun is dropped on the floor and at 2:35 the lady points at it.
BREAKING: Blackman carelessly slams lid on metal outdoor BBQ. Louisville police heroically return fire due to unexpected assault on their ears. Noise complaint resolution Louisville style
He raises his arm around 2:20 the same way he does around 2:30. Was he trying to give a hand signal to the police
That man was at his business protecting his family
Better question why was the national guard chasing American citizens with live rounds
The video clearly shows a shot was fired in his shops direction while he was inside which is when everyone started rushing in.. then when he gets to the door you so debris flying beside him as another shot goes off towards him.
This is confusing, because I never saw a weapon, not could I see anything approaching intent.
From: Associated Press
He does unholster a gun, but shots came from LEOs first before he possibly returned fire. You can see debris fly behind the girls head just before he first reached outside. The officers retreat and then return fire. They shot first.
He was in his comfort zone not expecting a fucking cop shoot out with him smh, rip!
Officer Derek Chauvin was trained by the Israeli Police who do this to Palestinians every day!
This ies in the face of, “Not ine officer had their body cam turned on during the incident.” Which is it? They had them on? Only one had it on? Is this doctored? What’s the source other than From The Police?
Louisville still has to account for the murder of BreonnaTaylor by their officers. The police account cannot be trusted.
Well at least they are still rioting
This vid only shows ppl taking shelter from gunfire. Cops switched off body cams, they knew what they were about to do
This man was surrounded by lots of people who loved him and had a thriving business. Why in the hell would a man who had everything to live for turn into an assassin over police brutality? Same as me & everybody else like us, he’s been seeing this all of his life.
How irresponsible to report something designed to be incendiary when you don’t even know what happened.
I'm not sure who is organizing these peaceful protests, but they need to organize, strategize and get into a tactical mindframe. The cops are walking the streets ready for war and entrapment upon bridges. Be smart. Out maneuver them. Rise!!!
Amcrest, the security system that recorded this video, a majority if not all their cameras have audio, but this one doesn’t. I wonder why
For those asking - at 2:28 he raises his right hand outside of the door (which is when people are saying he shot a gun though we don’t know for sure) then he gets shot, stumbles inside, drops his gun on the corner of the rug and falls over.. so fucked up.. Rest in power David M
Is it legal to have a gun at your place of business in Kentucky? Was he legally allowed to have one? Do officers have a right to pursue with weapons drawn into a private business?
I’ll I saw was the cops terrorizing American citizens. I saw no one but the cops fireing shots.
'It appears'. Bullsh*t. Nowhere do they admit that he was only holding BBQ tongs, not a gun, but 'appears' means nothing. Just that their smear is in place as the blue line closes ranks.
DavidDorn
what f*cking video are they watching because the only people shooting in the video i watched are the f*cking police.
Of course. It’s a real shame allllll the police officers who were present had their body cameras off so there could be conclusive evidence... 😒
He is carrying tongs and serving BBQ, I see no weapon.
All I saw was the police ruining a BBQ and than them killing a man.
That statement is total bs. He’s running BBQs, talking to his neighbors and being a host. Whatever cops get from this is bs.
Oh you mean the chef DavidMcAtee was holding cooking utensils while grilling that cops thought was a gun?
Note: We have deleted a previous tweet and updated this post to include more details of the incident.
There was no gun! Utter BS!!
Well thank god for video! Maybe the rest of the nation should invest
