Louie Anderson, the legendary stand-up comedian and Emmy Award-winning actor, has died at the age of 68. Anderson has had a constant presence on both the stage and the screen as a comic since the mid-1980s, though he is perhaps best known for his performance on the FX series Baskets as the mother of Zach Galifianakis' dual characters, Chip and Dale.
Anderson was also the recipient of two Daytime Emmys in 1997 and 1998 for his animated show on Fox, Life with Louie. The cartoon shares a similar name with his long-running stand-up show, Louie: Larger Than Life, which he performed in Las Vegas from 2003 to 2012. Anderson's wide range of accomplishments doesn't stop there, as he was also the initial host of the third revival of Family Feud from 1999 to 2002.
A few days ago, the comedian's publicist made a statement revealing Anderson had been diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma and had been admitted to a hospital for treatment, where he was "resting comfortably." Anderson was specifically diagnosed with Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma, the most common type of non-Hodgkin lymphoma, though Schwartz did not specify when Anderson was first diagnosed.
The news of Anderson's death broke moments after reports of another legendary figure's death began to surface, the"Bat Out of Hell" singer and Rocky Horror Picture Show actor Meat Loaf, meaning that January 21, 2022, will be forever be plagued by the loss of two artists who made irreplaceable contributions to their art forms. In the wake of these two tremendous losses, social media has been inundated with tributes and other comments mourning the deaths of both stars.
