Los Ángeles busca revertir con mascarillas casos de COVID-19

La gran mayoría de las nuevas infecciones han ocurrido entre personas no vacunadas, dijo la supervisora del condado Los Ángeles, Hilda Solís.“No me complace que tengamos que volver a utilizar mascarillas pero va a salvar vidas. Y en este momento para mí es lo más importante”, declaró Solis al programa “This Week” de la ABC.

California registra un aumento constante en las infecciones desde que el estado reabrió totalmente su economía el 15 de junio y suprimió los límites de aforo y el distanciamiento social. Las autoridades sanitarias de la bahía de San Francisco exhortaron la semana pasada a las personas a que utilicen mascarillas en edificios públicos, oficinas o empresas independientemente de si están vacunadas.

Los condados San Francisco, Santa Clara, San Mateo, Marin, Alameda, Contra Costa y Sonoma así como la ciudad de Berkeley se abstuvieron de ordenar el uso de mascarillas en forma obligatoria.Otros condados, como Sacramento y Yolo, también pidieron encarecidamente a las personas que utilicen mascarillas en interiores pero no en forma obligatoria.

La norma de la mascarilla en el condado Los Ángeles, anunciada el jueves, sigue a un invierno en el que la región tuvo un enorme aumento de infecciones y muertes, mientras los hospitales se llenaban de pacientes con COVID-19 y las ambulancias aguardaban afuera a la espera de que se desocupara alguna cama.
