CLEVELAND, Ohio — A state prison guard is accused of smuggling crystal methamphetamine and other drugs into the prison on behalf of an inmate, according to federal officials.
Gus worked at the Lorain Correctional Institution, a state-run prison in Grafton. Ohio Department of Corrections spokeswoman JoEllen Smith said Gus was hired on Dec. 20, 2021. He resigned on Friday, when investigators confronted him about the case. U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration agents and prison officials investigated the case. DEA agents searched Gus’ phone records and financial activity on money transfer applications, like CashApp. Agents also conducted surveillance on Gus’ home, according to court records.
