BALTIMORE — Rookie left-hander Logan Allen had a career afternoon on the mound with 10 strikeouts, and Cleveland’s offense came through with a big inning Monday as the Guardians picked up a 5-0 win against the Orioles at Camden Yards.
“Anytime we look up and somebody’s pitching into the seventh, you’re generally feeling pretty good,” Francona said. “But he’s learning on the job and he’s doing a pretty good job of it.” Allen became just the eighth pitcher in franchise history to record a 10-strikeout game in his first seven career starts. Triston McKenzie last accomplished the feat in 2020. Allen joins Herb Score , Luis Tiant , Sonny Siebert , Bob Feller , Gus Dorner and Danny Salazar . Score accomplished the feat in five of his first seven career games.
Brennan who doubled in his first two at-bats and scored the game’s first run on Gallagher’s RBI sacrifice fly in the fifth, marked his first career three-hit game. He said watching Gallagher haul it down the line fired up his team. “Cam’s done a really good job catching since day one,” Francona said. “Today he chipped in with couple hits. He used his legs, but he played a really good game and he always catches a really good game.”
