Letters to the Editor — Ken and Angela Paxton, Texas education, Memorial Day

I respectfully submit that my elected state senator who has a personal and direct stake in this matter is ineligible to participate in or vote on the impeachment of her spouse. Angela Paxton must recuse herself from the proceedings and the vote. Failure to do so will show that the senator is oblivious to the public interest, her clear conflict of interest and the appearance of impropriety.It was refreshing to see that our Texas House had the courage to vote to impeach Ken Paxton.

Wake up, Texans. We need to assess each candidate based on our personal values, instead of the “R” or “D” after their name. Until we do, our elected officials will not reflect and legislate for the values of the majority of our electorate.

As the dawn illuminates the granite markers on this sacred ground, one’s heart is filled with a mix of pride, sadness and gratitude. My father flew 32 missions over Nazi Germany in a B-17. Death was a daily companion lurking just over his shoulder. My mother, pregnant with me, woke every morning in fear of a telegram breaking her heart.
