VIENNA - Less than 1% of Austria’s population is infected with the coronavirus, a study published on Friday found, based on testing a representative sample of more than 1,500 people.
The first such study in continental Europe, led by pollster SORA which is known for projecting election results, aimed to provide a clearer picture of the total number of infections, given gaps in testing. “Based on this study, we believe that 0.33% of the population in Austria was acutely infected in early April,” SORA co-founder Christoph Hofinger told a news conference. Given the margin of error, the figure was 95% likely to be between 0.12% and 0.76%.
Austria reacted early to the outbreak in the country, closing schools, restaurants, theatres and other gathering places more than three weeks ago, and telling the population to stay home and work from there if possible.

If true that 60% of the earth’s population is supposed to eventually get this virus, that’s actually not comforting. We need people with antibodies.

There were no antibody tests, so the conclusion is both misleading and worthless in estimating how many people have been infected to make any useful inferences about transmission and herd immunity. But of course there are politicians using it to justify continued hysteria.
The present number of cases in Spain, 157,022, also means 0.33% of the Spanish population.

That means 29.234 cases, with 696 deaths, by Austria’s present death rate by coronavirus. By now Austria has 13.398 cases, with 319 deaths.
That's good news. But what's the sample size? A double-blind experiment? The sampling place? What is the age of the test population? Gender?
