NPR reviewed over 40 recent federal cases against protesters who threw Molotov cocktails or started fires damaging police property. This one is the only instance in which 924(c) — a charge that carries a mandatory minimum of 30 years in prison — appears.

when he announced the charges against the two attorneys."Such criminal acts should never be confused with legitimate protest. Those who carry out attacks on NYPD officers or vehicles are criminals, and they will be treated as such."

Most protesters arrested for throwing Molotov cocktails are charged under 844 – malicious damage or destruction by fire or explosive. When asked why the Rahman-Mattis case was charged differently, a spokesman for the U.S. Attorney's office declined to comment. But two federal prosecutors who worked in the Eastern District and know the U.S. Attorney there well say the fact that the two were lawyers and knew better certainly played a role in the decision to level so many serious charges.

Urooj Rahman and Colinford Mattis, both lawyers, are facing federal charges for allegedly throwing a Molotov cocktail into an empty police car.Urooj Rahman and Colinford Mattis, both lawyers, are facing federal charges for allegedly throwing a Molotov cocktail into an empty police car. Before all this happened, Rahman and Mattis were kids from immigrant families who were making good. Rahman, born to a Pakistani working-class family, grew up in Brooklyn and had gone to Fordham Law School.

NPR won't be getting anymore of my money, as they are justifying the release of two attempted murderers, because they are just 'trying to change the world.' Hope these bright lawyers don't succeed in killing anyone.

You don’t just create a Molotov on the fly. Their is premeditation there that shows these people were not intending to be peaceful protesters. We have to stop limping these lunatics in with the people who are protesting peacefully.

NPR are now lawyers, private investigators, climate scientists, and mind readers.

Lawyers should really understand that these actions were serious felonies. No ignorance excuse.

So wrong

Are you trying to rationalize this heinous crime?

I wonder why such a discrepancy? I can't seem to figure it out.

How shameful, all those years studying law, wasted. Terrible examples for those kids who might have looked up to them. Punishment should maximized to fit the crime.

Yet police can choke the life out of someone suspected of passing a phony 20 dollar bill, and likely walk.

Fly them to Black Site Alpha for re-education. Upper Class Children of Wealth Firebombing Working Class Cops is the reality of Antifa.

Lock these sick puppies UP

Don’t throw the fire unless you can do the time

NPR should be defunding for sympathizing with domestic terrorists. NPR Sympathizers should be arrested and NPR should be shuddered permanently for aiding and abetting terrorists.

Lawyers suck. These two each had one. Representing a liar.

like HongKong

Good

LOL GOOD! DUMB LOOTERS THOUGHT THEY COULD GET AWAY WITH IT BUT THE MORONS FORGET THEY ARENT THE ONLY ONES WITH CAMERAS. DEATH PENALTIES WILL CHANGE YOUR MIND NEXT TIME.

39 got off pretty easy. Setting precedent it seems

How many of these were individuals that threw Molotov Cocktails directly into a police cruiser that was occupied by two humans? Of the 40? Because that’s more relevant than someone throwing a match into a pile of papers in front of an unoccupied building.

Here's another... don't play stupid games with this woman
