As more state legislatures try to ban critical race theory in colleges, free speech advocates say worrisome precedents are being set across the U.S.

On June 4, OCCC reinstated Smith’s summer session of “Race and Ethnicity.” The difference? Now the class is an elective, instead of a general education requirement in social sciences.“What screams white privilege more than rewriting a degree program because white privilege makes white people uncomfortable?” Smith said.

Since George Floyd’s murder ignited a racial reckoning across America and Black Lives Matter protesters sparked the second-largest civil rights movement in U.S. history last spring, critical race theory — and if it should be taught in public schools — has been a hotly-debated topic. At least a dozen states, among them Missouri, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and West Virginia, are weighing measures to prohibit schools from teaching about racism or sexism.

“If [OCCC’s] interpretation of the bill is correct, it would ban women’s studies, too, or any discussion about race or gender bias,” said Adam Steinbaugh, an attorney with the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education, which works to defend the individual rights of students and faculty. “That pretty much eliminates any discussion about the civil rights movement.

BSU hired a firm to investigate the complaint, which came from someone the university has never identified. The diversity classes eventually resumed but moved to an online model, where students watched videos on their own time, a move Steinbaugh at the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education“You could view the class but not interact with your classmates or faculty — that’s not a great way to have conversations,” he said.

The second bill applies to both public K-12 schools and public colleges and universities. That one bars all conversations "formal or informal" on the same concepts.

This is dangerous . High school fails to teach a proper history because of sanctimonious white people who have no education .I’m outraged

Isn't this another trick to foster illiteracy by stopping people from reading the race myth criminal racism laws like the Dread Scott (1857) decision and John Punch (1641) decision There are 1000s.

Critical Race Theory starts with the premiss that white peoples are racist and that black people are oppressed. CRT itself is racist at its core - why should we teach our youth racist ideology and perpetuate the notion of perpetual racism - perpetual victimhood?

It’s a violation of freedom of speech. How hypocritical of the right!

Critical race theory is an examination of how the theory of Darwinism, and white supremacy, has ruined American policing, legal laws, and American society. This examination must take place, and the consequences administered.

Screw your CRT bullshit

Teachers wary of new laws limiting instruction on raceAs middle school teacher Brittany Paschall assembled a lesson plan on the history of the Negro Baseball Leagues, she wondered how she might have to go about it differently next year under a new Tennessee state law that prohibits teaching certain concepts of race and racism. The unit was about baseball, but more importantly, it was about segregation and racism in America. “I kept thinking, in light of this bill, if this were next year, how would I teach this to my students?” said Paschall, an English teacher in Nashville. I think the teachers should be rightly worried. Unless these Republican-controlled legislatures set out guidelines for how the measures will be enforced and when they are enforced, the laws are pretty much meaningless. Most stupid thing ever thought of to do to our kids in school now? You cannot push people together. We did the segregation in schools and this did nothing so how do you say that you are WHITE so at fault for the blacks who now are out in the streets killing each other?WHY? How about just teaching your subject. If it's a history class, no issues with including black American history which would include struggles from the slavery days. It SHOULD NOT tell children of any color they had any role to play in the past. Teach people respect, not hate

Inside one woman's effort to normalize marijuana in homes and get equity 'baked into the laws'Inside one woman's effort to normalize marijuana in homes and get equity 'baked into the laws': “It’s about making sure that there’s actually a pathway for people who have been on the illicit market to actually get to be part of the real market.' I am very pro-weed but this is a stupid way to frame it. laughable. I'm normal, no record, Canadian btw watching, and I'm growing my first time, I smoke for anxiety, PTSD, pot isn't evil, the government that lies daily to its people is. It's called entrepreneurship and hard work. You don't need a helping hand to start a legitimate business, you just need dedication. Instead of walking around with your hand out, put your nose to the grindstone and do it yourself.

Critical race theory: Diverse group of mothers from across the country speak out'Critical race theory,' the phrase that has captured headlines and driven news cycles, was once relegated to the halls of academia. But as CRT and its associated ideas have spread to school districts, so went the demographics of people debating its implications. Critical news theory.. Fox us done.. the consumers speaks put.. Let's some the fires of hate a little more. I love it. Oh good. The fear of teaching Ebonics to give black kids a level playing field in testing has metamorphosed into the fear of teaching CRT to create a more empathetic society. I’m not ashamed to be white after years of CRT education. I’m free from narrow mindedness!
