One out of every 14 people in Mississippi’s prison system — about 1,181 — were arrested and detained before the age of 18, Southern Poverty Law Center calculated for a recent report. The practice of locking up minors especially harms Black families: 85% of these people who arrived to jail as children are Black.

I'm 100% in favor of further expanding parole in our State. Especially for lifers & Juveniles. So I'm all for the two bills regarding it. However, according to the article the human brain doesn’t fully develop until a person’s mid-20s...so shouldn't the age range be 25 and under.

It literally makes me sick to know we’d be the 2nd country with the highest number of imprisoned people. I’m not excusing their behavior but why do we always give the harshest sentence possible? Why are we like this? We have to do better.
