Why The Warning That Coronavirus Was On The Move In U.S. Cities Came So LateIn early February the CDC decided to set up an early warning system for COVID-19 outbreaks, tests samples in six cities. But when it was finally running five weeks later, it was too late to warn some cities. That is by definition not an early warning system CDC's handling of this has been atrocious. I've lost a lot of respect for them, even as I recognize that most workers at CDC are doing their best but are hobbled with terrible leadership. NY had a lab test ready to go on Feb 2 (Wadsworth Lab) but Sec. Azar did not approve it until Feb 29. Washington had a lab also doing testing (Flu study) and Azar shut that down. There needs to be a serious senate investigation when this is all over.
