The Department of Labor on Thursday expanded eligibility for unemployment benefits to those facing unsafe workplaces, as well as out-of-work parents who had to quit their jobs when schools and child care providers closed and had no job when children returned to the classroom.
“Today’s guidance opens the door to relief for workers who have faced difficult, if not impossible, choices between accepting employment in an unsafe workplace to receive a steady source of income and protecting their health and that of their loved ones,” Patricia Smith, senior advisor to the Secretary of Labor, said in a statement Thursday.
Workers can now select more than one reason for their unemployment so that they can remain eligible for benefits even if one of the reasons subsides.
Illinois already has the first change allowing workers not to be forced into Unsafe Workplaces.
That’s how to stay lazy thru summer school and collect unemployment as a substitute which I hear they’re in need of.

This still seems vague. My husband who is at risk of Covid with serious complications-had to go on Leave Withoutv Pay at a Federal Office Bldg because his office opened Back up Feb 1- it is not safe for HIM -not sure if it’s safe for others but he didn’t want to risk it USDOL
