Rivers of lava invaded new parts of the Canary island of La Palma and ash engulfed homes up to their roofs as a 10-week volcanic eruption persisted. On Wednesday, the Cumbre Vieja volcano produced a new river of lava that was getting dangerously close to a church that had survived the other eruptions since they first began Sept. 19, according to the Associated Press. Houses were also threatened, the report added, and thousands of people have been forced from their homes over the course of the lengthy eruption.
