'Rereading this story by the emergency lighting of 2020, I can see that so many of the fears that inspired [Sleep Donation] have become facts.'

, but published in paperback for the first time this week — is an unnervingly prescient story about a widespread, deadly insomnia pandemic. It follows Trish Edgewater, a top recruiter tasked with convincing strangers to donate their healthy sleep to any of the millions of insomniacs who will die without it.

Yes! There’s a new one, too, around coronavirus, about how grown-ups know how to keep you safe, which, again, is what we’d *hope,* but alas...and was floored by how much it echoed the beginning of 2020 — the skepticism about whether or not this insomnia epidemic is real, the backlash around the “cure”... What inspired the story?

I love how a big part of sleep donation, and the danger of it, is the transmission of dreams and nightmares. I’m curious about your own relationship to dreams. Are you a dream analysis person? Do you have vivid dreams? It’s just such an interesting, almost philosophical part of the book, getting at the real stuff of consciousness.

Do you record your dreams, Arianna? Do you have any opinion on what they mean? It’s interesting to me to think about how our shifting views of dreams mirror other enormous cultural shifts. It really does. Do you feel differently about the story now versus when you wrote it? In light of how much the world has changed since then? I don’t want to keep you glued to your phone all night but I realized I haven’t even asked about how greed and capitalism ground the story in reality too...I resisted emojis for a long time, but you know, lately, I’m coming around.

Republicans Weigh In On Trump’s White Supremacy Debate Moment“If he doesn't correct it, I guess he didn't misspeak.' Imagine this even being a discussion but here we are. Why is Proud Boys a topic? When were they deemed a White Supremacist Group? Being proud of your country makes you a racist? People are tired of looting, burning, hate and the tearing down our moral fabric. Why are they not given the same right to bring-up while others bring-down. They should really be weighing in on Trump's zero plan for the next 4 years and just more 'yelling louder' routine. He's trash. Time to kick it to the curb.
