A juvenile has been charged in connection to a Monday morning house fire that sent two people to the hospital.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. -

Montgomery firefighters responded to the 2800 block of Willena Avenue shortly after 5 a.m. to a single-story house with visible smoke and flames. A 6-year-old girl and a 45-year-old man were found unconscious inside the home. They were transported to the emergency room at Jackson Hospital, both with smoke-related injuries, officials said. Firefighters also found an uninjured 15-year-old girl, and a 46-year-old woman who refused further treatment.

In a statement Monday afternoon, Montgomery Fire/Rescue Assistant Chief Stanley Cooper said a girl from the home was interviewed by investigators with her mother present. Cooper said the girl told authorities that she went into her parents’ room and took some of her mother’s possessions but does not remember anything else.

The girl is being charged with first-degree arson and was transported to the Montgomery County jail. Authorities have not confirmed if she is the girl who was not injured in the fire.
