Biden administration urges Supreme Court to suspend Texas abortion ban

The Biden administration on Monday asked the Supreme Court to intervene and suspend a Texas law that has banned most abortions there.

The administration’s appeal raises a significant question of legal procedure. At issue is whether the U.S. government can sue a state for violating the constitutional rights of its people. Before acting on the Justice Department’s emergency request over the Texas law, the justices are likely to first ask for a response from the Texas attorney general. It would take the votes of five justices to suspend the Texas law.

The Roe vs. Wade decision of 1973 struck down another Texas law that had banned nearly all abortions. Ever since, the high court has held that states may not prohibit pregnant women from obtaining an abortion prior to the time the fetus is viable. And second, Texas officials could not be sued for enforcing the new law because they had no role in enforcing it. Instead, the novel law used a type of bounty-hunter provision. It authorized private individuals to step forward and sue those who participated in an illegal abortion and collect $10,000 or more for doing so.

Biden team asks Supreme Court to pause Texas abortion lawWASHINGTON (AP) — The Biden administration is asking the Supreme Court to block the Texas law banning most abortions, while the fight over the measure's validity plays out in the courts. The law has been in effect since September, aside from a district court-ordered pause that lasted just 48 hours, and bans abortions once cardiac activity is detected, usually around six weeks and before some women know they are pregnant. do we need to replace the saying equal justice on the law/.on the entrance way to the supreme court of the USA/.APPEARS THAT IS THE CASE AS THE SCOTUS RUNS AMUCK/. Will they decide that the Federal Government doesn't have standing? Most abortions should be banned as too many people use it as a contraceptive so they can continue to make poor choices and be irresponsible.

Biden administration asks U.S. Supreme Court to block Texas abortion lawWASHINGTON (Reuters) -President Joe Biden's administration on Monday asked the U.S. Supreme Court to block a Texas law that imposes a near-total ban on abortion after a lower court reinstated the Republican-backed measure. The administration made its request to the Supreme Court seeking to quickly reverse a decision by the New Orleans-based 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals to lift a judge's order blocking the law while litigation over the matter continues. The Justice Department told the justices in a filing that the 5th Circuit's action 'enables Texas's ongoing nullification of this court's precedents and its citizens' constitutional rights.' We need to remember that a baby has the right to live EveryLifeFromTheWombToTheDeatBedToJesus! Abortion is murder! We need to remember EveryLifeFromTheWombToTheDeathBedMattersToJesus! Texas values life and their abortion ban needs to continue!
