Gulf Shores man finished fourth in show's latest season

placed fourth in the latest season of “Survivor” and Maryanne Oketch was declared the winner.Email SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- Young Bay Area activists are banning together in the wake of three mass shootings across the 2008.of 2 People visit the Town Square, the site of a memorial for the victims of the mass shooting at Robb Elementary School, on Friday, May 27, 2022, in Uvalde, Texas.

For him it’s been nearly a year -- so he’s had some time to catch up on his meals and think about how it all went down.Young recently took a few minutes to share some of those just 10 days.Bottom line: The game was the hardest thing he’s ever done, and he’d love to do it again. He eventually came back to Toast.Season 42 of the long-running show was filmed in Fiji in May-June 2021."We're barricading ourselves with books and desks and chairs for a weapon of war to walk our hall.Like season 41, it followed a sped-up format packed with twists that made the balance of power unusually fluid -- but because the two seasons were filmed back-to-back, Young and the rest of the cast didn’t know that going in.Tuesday was a black day in Uvalde — and each day since has delivered more heartbreak for Torres.

Young stood out for his strength and athleticism, but because those attributes could help him lock up immunity challenges, they also made him a threat. That's not normal. From the first note, you can feel the sadness that permeates the recording. It all made for a memorable ride.Q : Jonathan, your tendency to address host Jeff Probst as “Mr."This doesn't have to be this way.Jeff” seemed at times to surprise him, and some viewers thought it was really weird.” Followed by “Goin Home,” these songs paint a landscape where time doesn’t matter – because everything is going south.Personally, I’m involved with a youth group and I get called “Mr."We're going to make space at Manny's by any means necessary to have people come and share that anger and for us to say we don't have to continue on like this.” Torres called home Friday afternoon to check in with his family.

Lawrence” all the time, so I get it -- it’s a degree of formality in between “Jeff” and “Mr.Probst.It’s a scary place.” Maybe it’s a Southern phenomenon. But a lot of people didn’t get it, judging from the social media commentary.Tell us about the whole “Mr.“The greatest group I have ever met.Relatives were tired and frustrated, one woman said, and they just wanted to grieve.

Jeff” thing.Young : “Yessir. So the same reason they call you mister is the same reason I call him Mr.I couldn’t stay.Jeff.I give respect where respect is due and let me tell you, Mr.He spent Tuesday on the phone trying to find out something, anything.

Jeff earned my respect.’ I see you now eye to eye. He’s been doing it for 22 years. He’s been making so many people’s dreams come true and he has one of the best television shows on TV.Wherever respect is due, I give it.How can you be so real and intangible?” Toast will contain “Quit,” “Standing in the Light of Love,” “Goin’ Home,” “Timberline,” “Gateway of Love,” “How Ya Doin’,” and “Boom Boom Boom.” Q tribal council in the ninth episode , when Drea Wheeler and Maryanne raised concerns about the role of race in the game and Probst let the discussion play out.Meanwhile, as that afternoon progressed, camera crews flocked to town and set up shop at the town’s civic center.

At one point you said you felt Drea was being “aggressive,” and as you’re probably aware, some viewers judged you harshly for that. How did you experience it? Young: “I think that Drea and Maryanne, they expressed the way they were feeling. And after the tribal, Drea and I got to communicate and talk and I got to figure out more about the way she was feeling and why.Drea and I are actually on great terms. We talk on the phone and she’s my friend and hopefully [for] the rest of my life. The outrage from reporters was palpable.

” Q: Within the game, the incident seemed to be cathartic in a positive way.(Note: In a post-show interview with Entertainment Weekly , Wheeler said “I realized that I just don’t think he understood. So when I said to him ‘No, it’s not you.I love you. We’re friends’ — this was a genuine moment. On Friday afternoon, mourners stepped over TV cables and maneuvered around tents stocked with sunscreen and Gatorade for media crews.

”) You’re probably aware that outside the game, it caused a split in how you were viewed.Young : “There are no grudges between Drea and I that’s what I’ll leave it at, Drea and I are good and we love each other.I have Drea’s back and she’s got mine.” Q: You were the one big athletic guy in a cast that’s been described as being full of oddballs and misfits. How much of a surprise was that? Young : “You never know what to expect in ‘Survivor.Treviño, a Christian, is still trying to wrap his head around the whole thing.

’ They’re always mixing it up, they’re always changing it.I think I did have a big target on my back because I was more of a physical threat. That helped me and it hurt me.There were so many different -- and that’s one thing I keep going back to -- there were so many different strengths that everybody had that could be looked at as a reason to get them off … Omar, look at his strategy, look at the way he deceived people in a way that helped him go further in the game.No disrespect to Omar, I loved his game, but that’s an example of a different type of strength going far in the game.“It’s a bad thing to say, I know, but I’m just being honest.

” Jonathan Young's strength and fitness have been assets on "Survivor," but they also have made him a target.Robert Voets/CBS Entertainment 2021 CBS Broadcasting, Inc.All Rights Reserved.CBS/Robert Voets Q : Do you think it would have helped you if there were more physical contenders in the cast? Young : “I think it might have helped with gathering the food.I would get pretty worn out.He is still trying to accept what happened, to swallow that pill.

So if I caught five to 10 fish, I would get one fish and give the rest away, that was my ploy. However it helped me, in a way, that no one else could spearfish or gather food like that so they kept me around longer… They would go, look at Jonathan getting everybody food, they would go back to that. The longer I stayed, the more they ate.So no, I think it worked out great for me.I think that the cast, it all worked out good for me.” Nothing is easy from behind bars, Torres said, including parenting.

” Q : There was a moment in the finale where Mike Turner shared a food reward with you because, he claimed, you’d gone from 250 pounds to 210.Was that literally the case? Young.“Oh, man.I lost about 22, 23 pounds, so it was almost a pound a day.I have never been that low in weight in years, since before college. He knows that it’s his own choices involving gangs and drugs trafficking that led him to this spot, and that’s what is killing him.

I was 235 swimming in college.I must have been 17-18 years old when I was that light. It was definitely the hardest thing that I’ve ever done, and I’m so thankful for my brother Mike picking me on that meal.” Q : You’ve spent half your life wanting to be on “Survivor.” Are you at peace with finishing in fourth place? Young : “I’ll be honest with you, I’m so thankful. The setting sun cast a golden glow over the town square park on Friday evening as people dropped by to memorialize the dead.

I’m so thankful that I got fourth and I’m thankful that, if I was going to go out, that my main man Mike would take me out.[Note: Turner beat Young in a fire-making challenge to make the Final 3.] Honestly it was a blessing.I said something right at the end of the game.Right after I got voted out I said, ‘Mr.It joined a pile of flowers, several stuffed pandas and a unicorn balloon.

Jeff, I’ve got to tell you something.’ He said, ‘What?’ I said, ‘I fought the good fight.’ Something I wrote down before I went out there was, ‘I want to leave on empty.’ That was my bucket list, my ‘Survivor’ bucket list.I want to leave everything on the

I can tell you, Mr.Lawrence, I did that.” Q : At the start of the game, Maryanne came off as a bubbly, giddy, manic personality, not necessarily a power player. What do you think of her win? Young : “It’s great. The jury, when it came down to her convincing the jury, Maryanne is so social.

She’s got here social game.A lot of people didn’t realize how many people loved her.And that’s a huge part of ‘Survivor.’ She used that in the game, and then on top of that, when she was talking to the jury she did a great job at elaborating why she should be the sole survivor.” Q : Is it fair to say that of the three players who made it to the final jury vote, she was the one who approached the jury as if winning them over was a kind of immunity challenge? Young : “She approached it, I personally believe that she approached it the best way out of the three.

” Q : You’ve gotten a lot of exposure out of this. What comes next for you? Young : “I’m going to be open to everything and ask the Lord to guide me.Whatever happens, I’ll roll with it and keep moving.I don’t know what the future holds, but I always check with God first before I do anything.” Q : From early on there’s been speculation that you’d be a good pick for an all-star season, and you said in the finale that you’d like another shot.

Is that still the case? Young : “I’ve made it clear to everybody that if I get the chance to go back on ‘Survivor’ I’ll be there. It’s like an itch that can’t be scratched.Because it’s the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life.Straight up.It’s the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life.
