In a series of striking moves on immigration, LGBTQ rights and now abortion, Chief Justice John Roberts has sided with the Supreme Court's four liberal justices and established himself as one of the most influential figures in America today

Washington Chief Justice John Roberts has shattered societal and political expectations of the conservative Supreme Court and thrust it -- and his stewardship -- to the center of the national scene.

In a series of striking rulings over the last two weeks on immigration, LGBTQ rights and now abortion, Roberts has sided with the court's four liberal justices and established himself as one of the most influential figures in America today. His decision Monday to invalidate a Louisiana regulation on physicians who perform abortions affirms a 2016 ruling -- that he protested at the time -- and continues to preserve a woman's decades-old constitutional right to end a pregnancy.

Toobin: Here's why Roberts sided with liberal justices 02:10Rulings are often on procedure and precedentRoberts' opinions joining with the court's liberals over the past two weeks lacked such lofty language as his comments on Marshall and Taney. Still, in Monday's abortion case, the man who is known for holding his cards close to the vest put his current priority on the table. Past rulings matter, even if he was not part of those rulings.

If women had rights, violence against women would be a hate crime.

A WTF fact: WOMEN DON'T HAVE RIGHTS! That's why men get away with beating & raping women. If we had rights, think of what it would do to athletes, musicians, actors, directors, producers, photographers, management, cops, members of Scotus, AG's, POTUS, etc. ACCOUNTABILITY!

FEAR!!!

You go Mr. Roberts! Kudos. 😊

He voted for this same cause in Texas, how unreliable and stupid, what a Judge.

Greed

And you think USA is not corrupted? Under Trump’s administration it’s more corrupted than third world countries.

He was just a covfefe boy.

He won't throw away precedent without good reason. He won't accept brazen lies. He keeps telling conservatives they need less unbelievable lies and they'd be good. Only conservative stupidity is making him look like a swing voter.

Roberts realizes that times have changed and interpretation of the laws must change with it. Now if we could only get hardcore Christians to realize that as well. The Bible and its moral laws were fine for its time. But the world is almost two millenia older since it was written.

He’s gonna burn in hell! I hope I’m there at judgement day when he stands before God and tells how he killed babies

He probably sees the bias and needs be the truth for justice.

Let’s reserve final judgment on whether these cases reflect a realignment of the court until after the court releases its opinions on access to Trump’s financial records.
