An emotional Fiona Whelan Prine, his wife of more than 30 years, accepted the award from her home in Nashville. Surrounded by her family, she thanked Prine’s fans and longtime team for their devotion.
Songwriter Bobby Bare called Prine “probably my favorite singer because of his phrasing and delivery — no matter what he did, I loved it. I first saw John Prine live in 1977 in an old theater in San Fran. Since then I never missed a chance 2 see him if he was in town. I also saw him in Butte, Montana. I think he must have sang every song he wrote that night. He's a treasure. 💙💙💙
