That launched his meteoric rise at the network, culminating in him being named Peacock president and CEO in 2007. Zucker’s willingness to make game-changing tough decisions was exactly what CNN needed when he came aboard in 2013.
In the 2016 election season, the cabler saw some of its highest ratings, buoyed by an electrifying but controversial presidential race during which Zucker was something of a lightning rod. And it has stayed that way well into the Trump presidency, as the commander in chief continues to slam the network and rip it for being “fake news.” Zucker is under contract through 2020, and as of March 2019 has been promoted to Chairman of News & Sports at WarnerMedia; he will still lead CNN.
