Rome Italy invoked European Union powers to block the export of 250,000 Covid-19 vaccine doses to Australia on Thursday, in a dramatic escalation of a dispute between the EU and drug giant AstraZeneca.
Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi's spokesperson Paola Ansuini confirmed the move to CNN, adding that Italy and the European Commission had agreed on the action.The story was first reported by the Financial Times.Italy's move marks the first time the EU measures, which were introduced in January, have been used.
Astrazeneca has received 336 million euros in advance from the EU for the establishment of production sites in the EU. These production sites are now operating. But AZ violates the contracts and does not deliver the EU according to the contract. What do you call this?

The EU blocked the export of the doses, and let me be clearer, these are the same doses that the EU said it did not want and has now at the last second decided it does want. The EU vaccination programme is a disaster and their contempt for the Australians is now clear as well.
This is on AZ's disgusting play. They fail to distribute the contract in Europe the last 2 months with doubtful arguments, but at the same time sell vaccines, produced in the European countries, to other countries for a higher price. AZ is foul playing as before in their history.

The British-Swedish drug manufacturer failed to meet its EU contract commitments (the British side clearly not able to stick to an agreement but what’s new there) so the Italian government refused its request to export 250,000 doses from its Anagni plant near Rome.
