In her new book, Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Isabel Wilkerson examines the laws and practices that created a bipolar caste system in the U.S. — and how the Nazis borrowed from it.

The Warmth of Other Suns. There was a physician, a German physician in the 18th century who had this obsession with skulls, and he collected these skulls from all over the world and his effort to determine who was supreme in humanity. So he had skulls from all over the world, and he identified the most beautiful skulls as having come from the area around the Caucasus Mountains.

Now, what's fascinating about that as well is that the very people who were from that region of the world actually are among those who had the most difficult time gaining entry to the United States as citizens as white in the early 20th century, because they did not qualify based upon the preferences for those who were from Northern European ancestry. With Trump At The Border, A Look Back At U.S.

Tremendous back and forth, tremendous efforts on the part of eugenicists who then held sway in the popular imagination, tremendous effort to keep out people who we now would view as part of the dominant group. It was a form of curating who could become a part of the United States and where they would fit in, and they used immigration laws to determine who would be able to get access to that dominant group.

It turned out that German eugenicists were in continuing dialogue with American eugenicists. Books by American eugenicists were big sellers in Germany in the years leading up to the Third Reich. And then, of course, the Nazis needed no one to teach them how to hate. But what they did was they sent researchers to study America's Jim Crow laws. They actually sent researchers to America to study how Americans had subjugated African Americans, what would be considered the subordinated caste.

As a Hindu Indian, I've lost count of the number of times I've provided answers on Caste Many of these challenges came from people from 'a particular religion' whose own system of Jamats could and does beat any caste or racial system hollow. Globally.

oprahsbookclub LEAKED VIDEO EXPOSES GEORGE FLOYD’S DEATH AS TRAGEDY AND RACE HOAX USED TO DIVIDE US The George Floyd case is not a race crime,' Whitlock, who is Black, wrote. 'No rational person can watch that footage and conclude the police were motivated by Floyd’s Black race.'

avivajazz I needed to know where they we.. I like colored people. Many colours

oprahsbookclub At least they were not kidnapped, drugged and tortured for their blood Then skinned alive and eaten. Those are the victims, WE are the slaves.

We are all victims, all powerless, all dependent on the government. We should all be angry, feel grievance and vote left.

Interesting skew that misses the inspirational part of the American story. The arc of our history is realizing the aspirations of the Declaration, bringing Douglas’ 4th and King’s dream. Let’s work together to see this. We’re not trapped, and we don’t need to tear it down.

Excellent read, definitely want to grab this book!

We don't have a caste system yet. But if the Democrats get power, we will

The Nazis were the biggest fanboys of Jim Crow America. They learned from the best.

Simple. It’s what we constitutional conservatives call democrats.

Didn't faze me I like colored people

The American caste system differs from the Spanish version. In the Spanish version anyone could migrate up. Pio Pico migrated to the top but was pushed back down when the second wave of american white settlers invaded California. Latinos regardless of skin color are Latinos.

And it still continues today

bipolar having two poles, as the earth. of, relating to, or found at both polar regions. characterized by opposite extremes, as two conflicting political philosophies. Psychiatry. of, relating to, or having bipolar disorder: His wife is bipolar.

But, being a Pulitzer Prize winning author is not impressive. I mean, Trump has done more for the Nazi’s, erm, I mean, Jews, than any person in history!!

Now tell us where the Nazis got their socialism from. Mmm yeah. Go ahead.

So, some people don't want to admit that systematic racism exists in the U. S. But when you find out that the Nazis borrowed this stuff from us, it makes you start to wonder... 🤔

Terry was way out of her league, seemed almost unfamiliar if not uncomfortable with the concepts and even skeptical (no surprise, to be expected). Wilkerson was quite gracious and patient with Terry's facile grasp of the topic's nuances that aren't exactly novel.

This was AFTER laws were passed.

NPR propaganda. Garbage.

This was an enlightening listen today. We like to think that racial oppression and caste systems exist in other countries and not our own.

Is that something like the separate but equal graduation ceremonies and national anthems we have now? Or is voluntary segregation ok?

Fascinating listening today, thank you 🙏🏽

Obama needs to apologize to the victims of his 540 drone attacks, destruction of Libya & bombing of Afghanistan Iraq Somalia Pakistan Yemen and Syria—26,171 bombs in 2016 alone. He also needs to return the Nobel Peace Price he does not deserve for these war crimes.

yep. just ordered this today. looking forward to the read.

Nazis copied Democrats
