It’s safest to just take a “staycation,” but there are precautions you can take to minimize the risk involved.

However, if you’re going stir crazy and feel comfortable taking some time away from sheltering in place or working from home, or you have to travel out of necessity, there are precautions you’ll need to heed, say the CDC and other health experts.

Sharing a vehicle with those in your immediate household with whom you’ve already quarantined is preferred. If someone else is going along for the ride, or if a family member has had outside contact that’s suspect, it’s not a bad idea to ask them to get tested before departing. Be sure to have your car checked out by a mechanic before embarking on a long drive to confirm its roadworthiness, especially if its been sitting for an extended length of time.

Plan to bring an ample supply of hand sanitizer and disinfectant wipes along with you. If you take medications, remember to bring along enough to last for the entire trip, and perhaps more to cover an unforeseen delay. Take along some disposable gloves to make filling the gas tank safer, and put them safely into a plastic bag, and then the trash, after they’re used. Highway rest areas are an obvious hazard, so take extra precautions should you need to stop while en route.

Why are some people with coronavirus asymptomatic — and why are they so contagious? Why are some people with coronavirus asymptomatic — and why are they so contagious? New research sheds light on asymptomatic transmission is 'the Achilles’ heel of COVID-19.' Even if 95% of the population is asymptomatic or show mild symptoms, 5% represents 16.5 million with severe symptoms and if 5% of those die, it represents 825,000 Americans. Physical separation and masks are the only game in town till we get a vaccine with high efficacy. Absent from all the scaremongering is the fact that this was an engineered bioweapon. I can only imagine the desired outcome.
