David Blaine“What we tried to do is make a show for all generations of a family. We didn’t want to make a show that would exclude anybody,” said Corden, who worked out of his garage and connected with talent and his producers via videoconferencing tools.
He hesitated to pick a favorite performance, but did make specific mention of the special’s finale, which currently remains under wraps—but will feature an unnamed Broadway cast singing a song Corden himself kept thinking about during the last few weeks. “I think the ending of the show could be something quite profound,” he said, noting that with Broadway shut down indefinitely, many actors don’t know when they’ll get to go back to work, if at all.
“No one knows what the lifespan of those shows and things will be in this current climate,” Corden, who hosted last year’s Tony Awards, said. “The only thing I cling to is, I hope that somewhere down the line, there will be a glorious outpouring of wanting to have a collective experience and a deeper appreciation for what that means. A deeper appreciation for all of the things that we took for granted, you know. And that’s the light I look to in all of this.
