The superintendent of the South Florida school district who was indicted on a perjury charge by a grand jury investigating the Parkland school massacre will leave his job under a $740,000 severance package approved by a divided board.

Broward County Superintendent Robert Runcie's tenure will end no later than Aug. 10, but it could be sooner if an interim replacement is chosen by the board. If that happens, he will remain as a consultant until August.

Runcie supporter Laurie Rich Levinson said she voted for the agreement because “it allows us to move on as a district and focus on students.” The agreement includes Runcie receiving $145,000 in severance, $112,000 in salary, $230,000 for unused vacation and sick days, $187,000 in payments to his pension plan and $25,000 to pay his lawyer for negotiating his departure.

Prosecutors say Runcie lied when he repeatedly testified that he had not contacted anyone about the Hunter case and his only knowledge of the contract was from a presentation given years earlier.

This attack on people of color by ABC will not go unnoticed. Our proud, African American politicians should be enabled to resign quietly so as not to incite white supremacy and insurrection and dissent, which undermines our democracy. Ppl need to trust govt, not mistrust it!

First time for dummy mistakes getting paid.

Despite FDA approval, some schools say they won't mandate Covid vaccinationsSuperintendents say that middle school students will be encouraged, but not required, to get a Covid vaccine now that the FDA has granted approval. A vaccine for a kid who has basically zero risk from the disease itself is insanity. Mandate? GTFOH. Old people and the vulnerable have gotten their shot or should have by now. They were at risk. Leave the damn kids alone. Good! jdickler You should retract or change this story. The vaccine is not FDA approved for anyone at this time. It is authorized. Language matters!

Boys pulled out of class for BLM shirts in OklahomaTwo brothers, Bentlee Herbert, 8, and Rodney Herbert, 5, were removed from their elementary classrooms and made to wait outside of the front officer for wearing “Black Lives Matter” shirts. The New York Times reported that the boys’ mother, Jordan Herbert, was told by the superintendent of the school district in Ardmore, Oklahoma, that political apparel would “not be allowed at school.” Bentlee, who is a third-grader at Charles Evans Elementary, went to class in the Black Lives Matter shirt that he picked out himself to wear on April 30, according to his mother. Hate to admit it, but I agree with the no political apparel in school. You'll have other parents sending their kids to class with MAGA hats in response, and then every child will be in petty factional squabbles before they even know how to do PEMDAS. Good School is a place for learning, not for making your views known. I'm all for uniforms or at least banning all statements/ team support(other than your school)/'extreme' clothing trends. Make your fashion statements away from schools.
