Is omicron hitting a plateau in Utah? Here's what the numbers show

Cheetahs run faster than any animal, but only for 20-30 second spurts. The fastest Ferrari runs out of gas fast — it gets 13 miles per gallon. Omicron appears to roar to dominate the COVID-19 landscape, only to slow down at a similar rate.

We'll start by clocking the two biggest COVID-19 variants from 0-to-95 percent of infections in Utah. It took the delta variant 19 weeks to dominate to the same degree. When omicron hit 95 percent, Utah was averaging over three thousand new cases a day. When delta hit 95 percent, Utah averaged about 570 new cases each day.Considering the overwhelming case numbers, a much smaller percentage of people infected are going to the hospital, but it's still more patients than Utah hospitals have seen in the pandemic.

One month ago, 443 Utahns were hospitalized with COVID-19, with 182 in the ICU. At last count, 756 Utahns were hospitalized with the infection. That's a record high, besting the previous mark of 606 set in December 2020.WATCH: Utah doctors warn COVID still very real threatThe first country with an outbreak was South Africa. They accelerated for FOUR weeks, then slowed down almost as quickly. In Europe, omicron was first detected in the UK and it took them four weeks to peak as well.

Here in the U.S. the last week tracked by Johns Hopkins University was the fourth week. We'll have to see if we follow the same course.

Hm... so if Omicron is taking over, and it burns out quickly... what will we have left to be afraid of? We'll need another pandemic in order for the government to continue the masking and lockdowns and continue destroying the middle class.

Easy to get a plateau after you tell everyone to not get tested, even with symptoms.

NO. IT'S PEOPLE NOT TESTING! That is not a plateau. WHICH by the way, a testing center this week said THEY HAVE ENOUGH TESTS and that the governor is lying about us not having enough tests, via a source who went to get a test as her child is positive and very sick.

The winter holidays just ended, of course there was a spike. The spike would be lower if people took it more seriously, but it's all a mess now isn't it?

Orange County school absences decreasing, indicating possible peak in omicron surgeThere may be signs that the surge in the COVID-19 omicron variant has peaked in Orange County, where school districts are reporting lower numbers of absences. My pen fell off from my desk, omicron pushed it. It's certainly sad that we're more dependent on the virus to be kind to our children then for grown ups to get vaccinated and yes I know the science vaccination doesn't give you 100% that you won't get sick but at least the kids that were going into the hospital could be saved It hasn't peaked yet. That will be in about a week.
