'This situation has caused tremendous stress and difficulty, but it has also provoked new awareness of what’s truly important.' Unexpected time with family can be stressful, but one writer is finding silver linings amid the pandemic.

This year has been a challenge for everyone: lives lost, lives disrupted, businesses shut, with some of them gone forever.

Many offices and schools remain closed, or operating at a fraction of usual capacity, especially in the place where I live, Brooklyn, N.Y. My neighborhood is gradually bouncing back, but parents and children are now accustomed to being around each other all the time. It isn’t easy. Every day feels like a bit of a marathon.
