Love your fingertips.

—but she took issue with the food holder that prevents your fingers from coming in contact with the blade. Hand guards for this tool can be cumbersome, clunky, and difficult to attach to the food, thereby tempting cooks to go without them and risk safety.

That's why, if you're using a mandoline, you should wear a cutting glove. Often used in food service, cut-resistant gloves are usually made from Spectra-fiber—a material used in bullet proof vests—so you know they're legit. Cook's Illustrated . You want something woven tightly enough that the fibers won't loosen and fall apart, but with enough stretch that you can easily move your fingers enough to switch out your mandoline blades and grip the protective guard or the food you're slicing. Theare a good option that fits all of this criteria—and they're on sale for Amazon Prime Day 2019 for just 10 bucks.

They work great when I grate!

These gloves are a game changer for anyone!! Additionally, I gave a pair to my visually impaired neighbor to use with his knives. He said it helped him remain independent in the kitchen.

Anyone who shreds carrots, zucchini, or anything else that “slips” needs these to protect the fingers and the food!

My girlfriend says she wishes they were longer

Just pay attention.

Sliced my finger on one of these and had a good laugh explaining to urgent care Dr. the difference between a mandoline and mandolin

Yes indeed. I bought a pair after I sliced my finger along with the onion.

that onion looks like cranberry sauce from a can

Klonick Maybe an addition to your wardrobe?

Where’s the fun in that? Risking losing your fingertips

Just use the handguard!

Inside me? Yes

Bulloney

I was in hand trauma rehab for a decade. I’d wear those everywhere. I know what the losing end of hand vs pretty much anything looks like 😳

There are even more resistant gloves, and they're all great for exfoliating, too!

billburr looks like you're not the only guy to chop a finger off

For anyone living in Norway, these are available at Kitch’n. I got a pair over Christmas and they’re absolutely life changing.

Uh. I have never worn gloves nor hurt myself. I also have thrown away 1/4 veggies when things got close, but know your blade 👊🏼

Threw mine away. Prefer digits to fancy veg

Even as I read this I have a bandage over my thumb trying get to regrow skin over the knuckle after my last slicing spree with my handheld mandolin. Searching for slicing gloves now...

Just wish they were easier to clean. And why wear 2?

Or you can save a few bucks and just not be an idiot.

Why do you need two?

Yes, indeed.

Been doing this for a couple years now and it is a game changer!

I kind of like the squared off end of my middle finger ....

Oh sure, now you tell me 🩸

I am missing a corner of the tip of a finger because I didn't know about these gloves a few decades ago and how else was I supposed to cut the carrots? Refused to go to the ER because it was Thanksgiving day.

I learned NEVER to talk to anyone while using this tool I nearly lost my thumb. The scar and numbness will never go away I still use it, but I do pay attention and not go too far down on what I am slicing No, I do not wear protective gloves. I do have a set for crafting work

You really only need to wear one.

Or... you know... maybe one should learn how to properly use a tool that contains an extremely sharp blade and pay attention while using it 💁🏻‍♂️

Steel gloves are great!

2 pair in my kitchen 😉

Orrrrrr you could just use the kitchen towel you already own

Donating a chunk of finger to one of these during a dinner party is always entertaining. Probably why my sister bought me a pair of these gloves last Christmas

Is that canned cranberry sauce?

This x 100! So true!

Needed stitches last year from cutting fennel on one of these bastards.

Fingertips are overrated

Just use the holder
