Scalia looks on in the Brady Press Briefing Room at the White House on April 09, 2020 in Washington, DC. U.S. unemployment claims have approached 17 million over the past three weeks amid the COVID-19 pandemic.: As public health experts and U.S. officials begin to think about how and when the country should start easing social distancing, President Donald Trump on Thursday said widespread testing “isn’t necessary, but would be a good thing to have” before the economy reopens.

At the White House Coronavirus Task Force daily press briefing, Trump continued to praise the country’s testing capabilities, which have ramped up significantly in recent weeks. Public health experts say the U.S. needs more in order to lift social distancing restrictions. When asked if the country needs a nationwide testing system for the virus before people can start going back to work, Trump said, “No. We have a great testing system, the best testing system in the world.”

Two former FDA commissioners, Mark McClellan and Scott Gottlieb, published a paper on Tuesday outlining the need for at least 750,000 tests per week to contain the disease and reopen the country. When asked if that number is needed before the economy can open, Trump said,"I don't like using the word 'needed,' because I don't think it's needed, but we are going to try and hit a number like that, that’s a very high number.”2.

I dont think sex is needed

That’s why we’re in this position and are so fucked

Is there sufficient data yet to enable us to compare the sickness, suffering and death from Corona vs the shutdown economy?

Pontificating without tools...

He also said it was a hoax, was being contained, gonna disappear. Why are we listening to him regarding anything science based? He is unqualified

Focus on the ‘i don’t think ‘

Is he trying to do human spring cleaning?

Is he for real!!?

People that should have no credibility after this: Trump, Trump supporters, anti-vaxxers, Fox “news”

they should just give tests to all state hospitals, ratio to population of state and just let the people do it themselves. realDonaldTrump

If they tested the way they should, his incredible failure from the outset to take this serious would be exacerbated. He’s terrible at his job and scared of the truth. I’m going to vote for a corpse in November just to get rid of this zero.

Are you looking for a virus treatment 19? There is no cure. Stay home with your family. If necessary, outside the home, abide by safety protection and tell your friends about it. thank you ترجمة التغريدة

It is necessary and this has been the way it was from the start. The People of the US should be extremely pissed at realDonaldTrump and the GOP for what has happened. This was an orchestrated attack against the American people. A disgrace and the embarrassment of the world!

Did anyone tell him he isn’t needed or wanted.

45 is clearly not paying attention to the rising death rates. Not testing will lead to a rolling tide of COVID-19 ravaging this country, especially when most do not know if they have or are coronavirus carriers. Ice running through their veins.

He doesn't care of Americans lives and proved it by saying 'it's not needed'

Beyond insane, this is getting scary.

Just wondering why you stopped the quote halfway thru the sentence for the headline? This is why I trust nothing any of these media idiots. I’d rather stare at a pile of dogshit for an hour before I click another Forbes link. Clicksturbaitors

Give this OLD MAN A BURGER AND DIET COKE!! THEN OFF TO BED FOR THIS CLOWN. ELECT A CLOWN AND WELCOME HIS CIRCUS

This boy realDonaldTrump has the audacity to call himself a businessman, leader, manager. He knows two things: Bankruptcy & how to leverage horrible lending decision/loan authority against banks.

Think logically 300m times every week? It is not needed

Some may believe he doesn't care since the majority of people dying are black.

It’s not

Trump says widespread coronavirus testing 'would never happen' and isn't needed to reopen countryThe president said a widespread COVID-19 testing program to assess whether Americans can safely return to work would be 'a nice thing to do' but 'would never happen' on his watch. He’s the anti president Except widespread testing at the Whitehouse 🤔 I have to disagree with the president on this one. I know he is feeling pressure to get things going again, and to come up with a plan to fix this, but outside of encouraging people to do social distancing and staying at home, there isnt much else he can do.
