An area of disturbed weather in the Gulf of Mexico is being watched but had only a 10 percent chance of becoming a tropical depression or storm as of Sunday afternoon.The Atlantic hurricane season officially kicks off on June 1, but forecasters already have their eyes trained on the Gulf of Mexico. There’s a disturbance there, and it has been bringing rain and storms to the northern Gulf Coast today.However, it could help make the Gulf especially hazardous for swimmers. A high risk of rip currents is in place along the Alabama and northwest Florida beaches through at least Wednesday night:
