Some tips on how to communicate your unhappiness at a reclined plane seat without seeming like a maniac.

Don't be like that guy in the viral video.

before takeoff so you can wake up on the runway in italy tom.scocca also the conditions have changed since the reclining wars began The things they’ve done to seat spacing are inhuman There’s now the genuine nightmare experience for me of…not being able to reach my bag under the seat in front of me? Like my spine can’t bend forward in the space anymore?? dan.kois yeah i always have to pick up my bag with my feet ashley.feinberg correct thing to do is wait a bit, stand up as if the chair had never been reclined, make sure there’s a heavy jostle, and then act shocked and confused about this thing that was suddenly in your way dan.kois Once I politely asked the person in front of me if they wouldn’t mind putting their seat back up as I was trying to work but couldn’t open my laptop, and they turned around, looked me in the face, and said, “Fuck you.” so, you could try that heidi.grothaus Another thing to do is put your tray table up and down at frequent intervals and push real hard to make sure it’s locked in its upright position. dan.kois i mean, if they get up to go to the bathroom and leave the seat reclined, you are legally obligated to push their button and unrecline their seat dan.check If someone with a reclined seat gets up to go to the bathroom, it’s fair game to push the seat back into its full upright position You don’t even have to press the button—just push hard. daniel.schroeder messing with a reclined seat makes people want to double down on the recline though laura.bennett sorry to report I will both recline luxuriously when my seat permits it AND engage in strategic jostles to communicate my displeasure when the seat in front me reclines I enjoy both in equal measure lizzie.o’leary Laura I did not think it was possible to both-sides this laura.bennett and yet here we are there’s different satisfaction to be gained from both the recline AND the righteous annoyance what can i say heidi.grothaus I think both sides-ing this is akin to hating pedestrians as a driver and hating drivers as a pedestrian lizzie.o’leary all I know is I will betray all my democratic principles to be comfortable on an airplane katie.rayford I am currently on a plane where the person in front of me has reclined if anyone wants me to try any methods out in real time ashley.feinberg try whispering in their ear “ you can lean back even more if you want” i bet you that fixes it Read more: Slate

Direct this at the true problem!! The airlines have taken the SPACE. Complain to THEM! The upright position causes pain in my back, so I do need to recline somewhat. Remember when no complaints on this? Yeah, before they TOOK the recline away, no problem. Direct to airlines! Corporate media now have to teach adults how to behave in public?

Displeasure should be aimed at the airline CEO. I’ll be damned if I’m going to pay full price for a seat I can’t recline. best way to complain about your fellow passenger is to buy a seat in first class

Delta’s CEO offers a simple solution to the raging debate over reclining seats on airplanesDelta Air Lines Inc. Chief Executive Officer Ed Bastian weighs in on a simmering debate about the proper protocol when reclining one’s seat on a flight. He a joke why should I ask if they offer it on my seat !!! 👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼 Seems like the polite thing to doe

HuffPost is now a part of Verizon MediaWe need to start implementing people and their luggage on one weight/scale ticket price! The seats and leg room now is so small I don’t see how some even sit in them. I’m petite and I still feel crowded. Bigger planes? Or fewer seats for more leg room in economy class? business/first class have ample space for comfortable air trips

Airline passengers should ask before they recline, Delta CEO says after seat-punching videoThe Delta chief's comments come after a viral video of an American Airlines passenger repeatedly punching the seat of a woman in front of him after she reclined. elonmusk TeslaAirlines?! No.

Who’s the Jerk in This Airline Video: the Woman Reclining or the Guy Hitting Her Seat? The internet is split. The better question: Why can’t airlines solve the legroom problem? The airlines for offering reclining seats

The jerk move is by the airlines that do not provide enough space imo. No. It’s a jerk move to punch the seat of someone who has reclined their seat. Who comes up with this shit?

Delta Airlines CEO Weighs in on Reclining Seat Debate, Says the 'Proper Thing to Do' Is to Ask First'If someone knows there's a tall person behind them and they want to recline their seat, I think the polite thing would be to make certain it was okay,' Ed Bastian said YES! Ask first!!!!!! It’s jarring when someone just slams their seat back & rude. Especially if you’re tall. She did ask and put it up during the meal Omg! Why is this on her? Why didn’t HE say something if it bothered him? This is on HIM! Instead he kept PUNCHING her seat. And AmericanAir ALLOWED this and CONTINUED to APPROVE his behaviour by offering alcohol to an already agitated twat!! reviewyourpolicy 🤏🏼
