“I never have the needle in my clients view when it’s time to pierce, either, because this will just make their hearts start to race even more,” Janusewki explained over email. “I like to instruct my clients to take a long, deep breath in and long exhale out as I do the piercing. Breathing helps tremendously!” She finds that it’s very important to carry on light conversation with her needle-phobic clients to distract them from their fears.

Dr. Ryan Douglas, a psychologist at the Anxiety Treatment Center of Austin, has been working with two needle-phobic patients who want to get the COVID vaccine. With both of them, he has them “very clearly focus on a goal that is related to their values .” He said that his clients being able to watch videos of people getting vaccinated on social media has been helpful, so they know what to expect.

evepeyser Hell, I can't even get on a fckn Wait List here in NYC. NONE of the vaccination sites have updated the criteria for eligibility(nor has the State website). I'm told I can't make an appointment because I'm 62(w/COPD/emphysema), and/or not a City employee🤬 I'll try Again tomorrow.

evepeyser My 2nd shot was given by Captain Charles Harper of the Houston Fire Department. He was so kind, friendly and talkative. He got me going, talking about this and that that I didn't even notice when he gave me the shot. In fact I only noticed the bandaid!
