The virus is droplet, not airborne. N95s are for airborne. The most important thing is to not let the droplets get into your mouth and eyes by masks, washing hands, limit touching of face and wearing eye protection.

Why cut a hole in it? It works fine if you just do the folding. I did that for myself, and it worked fine.
I suggest to stop this. A real mask is different and the only one who can protect from aerosol is FFP3 (that one with the valve) the others are like water for a dying one. Here in Italy we had the experience
