In an economy booming by the traditional measures of surging stock values and rock-bottom unemployment, a key indicator continues to flash red: 18% of men aged 25 to 54 don’t have full-time work.
That’s a vast improvement over the 25% who were idle or working only part-time in 2010. But by pre-Great Recession standards, the present resembles the bottom of a downturn, underperforming the worst points in either the 1990-91 or 2001 recessions. To Read the Full Story
SectorCycle oren_cass *KABOOMING economy. Very low interest rates. Federal deficit and national debt growth double the rate from when DJT entered office. Tax base lowest in decades. Recession is coming. Hold tight.
oren_cass I can’t network my way in to a job. Everyone knows ATS/HRIS don’t work. The computers look for overly narrow work experience.
oren_cass Ambition & hard work sometimes do the trick.
oren_cass Mandatory E verify. Reduce or eliminate H1B visas. Problem solved.
oren_cass I see hiring signs literally every area in the city
oren_cass You also need men who aren’t afraid of work!! Millennials tend to think they’re too good or above doing certain types of jobs! THAT attitude is their PROBLEM, and nothing else!
oren_cass Here's a novel idea: Stop importing all our labor from other parts of the world and train our own citizens in skills that are in demand
oren_cass Some % of that group could not make an appt on time to pick up free money if it were offered if you were on time. 90% of life is showing up. The other 10% being on time.
oren_cass This 18% also see that employers have a set up for defeat culture. Employers need a real HR department that protects the employee. Actually this number is higher. Ask me how?
oren_cass What’s the unemployment rate for black men in Chicago? 50%? Bring jobs to Chicago and give the men an opportunity to help themselves.
oren_cass It is certainly a concern. What I hear from employers is that applicants need to pass the drug test and show up for work. Not surprised that some have terrible work habits. Go back and ask their teachers what they were like in middle school.
oren_cass Me thinks you need to rethink alarm clocks.
oren_cass Why do people always believe they need to save the sheeple? Someone has to work at McDonalds. Believe it or not, there are plenty of guys who want to live in their parents basement and smoke weed for a hobby. Believe me, my daughter is dating one of them.
oren_cass Booming economy? 🤣😂👆
oren_cass Can you explain what you consider a 'booming economy'? Manufacturing and CEO confidence are both at a decade low. National debt is growing at greater than $1 trillion/year and 4th quarter GDP growth is predicted to be less than 1%.
oren_cass I seem to remember that was one of Clinton's programs that she wanted to roll out. Education and training. Hhhhmmmmm.....
SectorCycle oren_cass We are measuring the economy wrong. Wage labor ≠ health and happiness. Efficient allocation of labor demands *less* formal employment, not more. Raise basic income from $0 to $1K. Track effects. We want more production with less labor, while increasing distribution. Add more.
oren_cass This is Wall Street Journal? Wow someone alert FOX, to remove this🇺🇸
SectorCycle oren_cass It's ok; they're paying off +200 years of oppressive patriarchy. But yes, rethinking all of those would be good.
oren_cass
oren_cass Basically calling them dum-wits
I continually hear from people in the trades (particularly electric, plumbing, welding) that they can’t attract younger workers to fill jobs, which offer good starting pay and union benefits. Their crews are aging and they aren’t able to backfill.
oren_cass And maybe get everyone over the age of 67 to retire and get out of the way?
oren_cass This is the WSJ. I thought their solution to all problems was MOAR TAX CUTS TO RICH FCKS AND CORPORATIONS
oren_cass Who wants to work full time? Reduction of my expenses took this long to only work when I need to, have you ever tried being a free person with little expenses. I go to the park and lay on a blanket, and walk around at night meeting others and helping them work if I can. Freedom!
oren_cass 1. Some people choose to not work full time 2. If you want to work full time and aren't, you aren't trying hard enough. 3. If you're still sitting out waiting for a job with your useless humanities degree, accept the fact it's never going to happen.
oren_cass And kill jobs with minimal wage.
oren_cass
oren_cass Stop importing cheap third world labor. Stop importing cheap white collar labor. That right there is the number one easiest way to put American men back to work.
oren_cass Typical. Misdiagnose the problem and you will fail to prescribe the correct solution
oren_cass You can't make lazy people work either so if people want to work fulltime it's their choice. to much free benefits now
oren_cass The premise of this article - that high school became college prep school - is ridiculous! Underclassmen in today’s colleges are taking remedial classes... High school has become a torture chamber! Remove your children from public school TODAY!
oren_cass 3Q19 GDP growth was 1.9%. That qualifies as booming?
oren_cass It’s almost like we can’t judge the “booming economy” based on only what a Trump says. Weird I know
oren_cass 18% seems excessively high for males aged 25-54. 🤷♂️
oren_cass The last thing that anyone needs is more “education.”
oren_cass But the wage gap, men make more then women right now. Why would you want to help that become larger?
