. The first was to link existing railway stations in Paris onto one combined circular track to transport goods; horse and cart journeys were no longer viable for the growing population. The railway fell into decline after the Metropolitain started to be built at the turn of the 20th century. By 1913, numbers had fallen to 14 million and by 1927, only 7 million people were using it.The line is accessible from many of Paris’–the 12th, 13th, 14th, 15th, 16th, 17th, 18th, 19th, and 20th. Easy access is at the Villa du Bel Air near Porte de Vincennes.and open to the public, with playgrounds and communal gardens along the line.
