Although success may look different to each person, after years of research, one author, Dr. Ruth Gotian, has identified four tenets that when practiced in tandem can help those that wish to thrive reach peak performance similar to the likes of astronauts, Olympic champions, and Nobel laureates.

What is it that you are passionate about? Is there something that gives you a reason to wake up in the morning? In addition, high achievers aimed to leverage the things that were in their ability to control–their responses to circumstances–and didn’t get hung up on the things that they had no control over–the weather or other natural occurrences. With this continuously renewed perspective, high achievers continue to view challenges very differently.

At its core, each new task that is seemingly complex is rooted in the mastery of a few basic practices that are compounded together. Gotian identified that basic techniques became the connective tissue on which new muscle memory was built, which inspired small changes that had sweeping effects in the lives of high achievers. This teaching conveys the importance of the compounding effects of small wins rather than the sweeping momentum often sought by larger wins.

When attaining success, high achievers are often placed in the position to teach, however, it isn’t teaching alone that has led to them becoming their best selves. These achievers lean on informally learning through life’s countless opportunities.
