A first generation American, Ghebremichael is the daughter of parents who emigrated from Eritrea, a country in North East Africa. They had left everything behind to pursue their education and begin a new life. Ghebremichael understood that she needed her dreams to feel attainable. “To see someone with skin like mine, who was this triple threat, dancing, singing and acting made it very achievable,” she says.
She then called her parents. “My mother asked, ‘What about school?’ I said, ‘What about school? I'll just do both.’ I had the optimism as someone young who is making her Broadway debut and excited to be on Broadway.”
