I joke that for the birth of my first child I had “the most medicated birth in history.” I entered the hospital with no expectations and did a perfect trust fall into the arms of my nurses and doctors. My husband and my mother were right by my side. My mom got me through the first birth—it was the pitch change in her voice that signaled to me I was close, that the baby was nearly here, to just keep going.
Never did I imagine that I would be putting all the options on the table: hospital, home birth, natural birth at the birthing center. The thought of not having my husband or mother there is unimaginable. The idea of contracting COVID-19 and being separated from a newborn even worse. We are all wondering: what will the virus do to our babies and to our births? Will the baby get the virus? What would it mean to get sick with the changed immune system that comes with pregnancy? There are so few answers available. It’s still so early. We know that SARS had aon pregnant women and babies. Thank goodness, COVID-19 isn’t looking like it does thus far.
After many sleepless nights of refreshing my news feed until 2 or 3 a.m. and waking drenched in anxiety, I forced myself to stop compulsive news gathering. I put my phone on airplane mode at 10 p.m., lit the candles, filled the bath and settled in for a big read.
All alone & the to be newborn decides not to leave 😶
😍😍
Great read, this pandemic has me thinking of pregnancy a lot. Honestly I find myself thanking God that my husband and I don’t have children during this. It’s all extremely terrifying. We want kids but to get pregnant now seems irresponsible. myopinionforme
No woman should give birth alone
stop posting this it makes it seem it’s ok for a father not to witness his child’s birth... being pregnant this is driving me mad.... they shouldn’t ban husbands especiallly since you live in the same household...pregnant women giving birth for the first time are already scared
Wow!
😱
oh hell naw my husband is going to be in the room when I give birth in June... we are in the same household and it’s his baby too. Hospitals shouldn’t deprive fathers of the birth of their child.
Is there a midwife near you ?I wonder if there are previous trained midwives who could be on standby for home births ?I have one next door but one
