“The Messenger” — which will run Jan. 14-29 at Pioneer Theatre Company — tells the story of Therese Stockman (played by Ora Jones), a doctor who discovers that something that sustains her small town’s economy is also making its people sick.

The play, adapting the Henrik Ibsen classic "An Enemy of the People," runs Jan. 14-29, 2022.Jeff Talbott wasn’t intending to write a metaphor for the COVID-19 pandemic. But, as his play “The Messenger” was being developed, it worked out that way.

Dr. Theresa Stockman tells her brother, Peter — who's also the mayor of their town — about a health danger that could affect the town's economy, in Pioneer Theatre Company's production of Jeff Talbott's play "The Messenger." The play, adapting the Henrik Ibsen classic "An Enemy of the People," runs Jan. 14-29, 2022.

Now, nearly two years later, Talbott and Grantom are able to put “The Messenger” onstage. Again, the virus is intruding, as the surge of cases prompted by the omicron variant is making case counts spike and taxing health care workers to the limit. The play, Talbott and Grantom said, is about more than the current moment. The production centers on society’s relationship with the press, the art of conversation and why we do — or don’t — talk to each other.

Biden Sending Medical Teams to Overwhelmed Hospitals in 6 StatesMilitary medical teams will be deployed to Michigan, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Ohio and Rhode Island as part of a “surge response” to COVID-19. If only we hadn’t fired/forced out all those pure bloods. Maybe we would have enough medical workers. I guess all of these hospitals who cut staff because of Joe’s mandate are looking stupid. They were good enough last year during the pandemic. Guess you stepped on your dock with a golf shoe. ThePerezHilton

CDC COVID-19 guidance to become optional for cruise linesThe guidelines covered several COVID-19 safety measures on ships. Very interested in who would cruise at this time. I think of all the norovirus outbreaks on ships, and wonder why people would put themselves in the same environment in the midst of COVID.
