Compared to research on the 2016 election, preliminary findings on coronavirus misinformation suggest more people are seeing—and believing—misinformation now. It may have something to do with the challenge of understanding a new disease.

Many Americans are also having difficulty discerning accurate information. For example, in the Cornell paper, when shown headlines about treatments for COVID-19, 40 percent of respondents, on average, judged real headlines in this category to be true, and the remaining 60 percent were “almost evenly divided between identifying the headline as false or acknowledging that they were unsure.”

“They still only believe true content like 65-ish percent of the time and the false content they believe like 25 percent of the time, so not great but at least there’s a difference,” Pennycook said. “If instead you ask them which ones they would share on social media, they’re terrible at discerning between them. They don’t, basically.”

How do u knw what u are reporting isnt fake news I thk the main problem is we cant trust our government or our media!!! Your headline regarding this story says it all!

Yea starting with some people believing QuidProQuoJoe with 🇺🇦 🇨🇳everything was legitimate when HunterBiden was dubious... fired by the navy a drug user and with no experience mularky joe carved a set of multimillion dollar deals

Misinformation? Like 'don't wear a mask/must wear a mask/masks cause health problems?' Like 'lockdown until a vaccine or everyone dies/ end the lockdown or everyone kills themselves?' That misinformation?

That is because the 'experts' don't know anything about COVID; so they wing it.

Could the media be to blame

When our two specialists change their views if one sees their statements what can the lay person think ?

polls show otherwise

You don't have to look any father the WH

The CCP's misinformant and coverup led to a pandemic that now causes so many lives around the globe. It is becoming critical to realise the damaging ideologies of communism and socialism, and the destruction these have inflicted around the world. ChinaLiedPeopleDied CCP

It has to do with having a misinformed, ignorant president spewing erratic and conflicting statements. When is a medical expert, or any Federal official, going to stand up and help Americans? WorldNews NBCNews CBSNews CoronaUpdate

It may have something to do with the fact that we’ve been awash in BS for 4 years with a media reporting insanity as a valid viewpoint. Ex: Trump claims pigs fly: Some experts disagree Information is broken because MSM traded judgement for clicks, now there’s a body count.

'With this Radiation-Proof Cap You Can Protect Yourself From 5G Radiation. This Cap Has Silver Fiber Knitting Which Makes It Resistant To All Electro Magnetic Waves. It's Structure Has Built Based On Faraday Cage Idea.

this virus is crazy , i hope we get rid of it soon

Or Missing Cognitive-Rationalization Capability!

It's simple. Most people don't understand the scientific method. This is a new virus. We're playing it cautiously

Could you please slow down a bit and think about this, 5G operates at the same freq as, a microwave both cooking and communicating, wi-fi, cordless phones, baby monitors, wireless CCTV, some cameras etc all of these things produce around the same amount of radiation.

Wake up, American people,You have been seriously infiltrated by the CCP. Sooner or later you will be ruled by communists.

Simple: The source of misinformation is from the top: trump is a liar, a man stupid enough to take a dangerous medication when he apparently isn't sick, and spreads all sorts of rumors and misinformation - which gets repeated by the russianbots and RetweeetPlease stations.

Who decides what is misinformation? Is misinformation anything that *isn’t* what a government agency says? This is ridiculous. You’re presenting something as fact that is ABSOLUTELY up for debate.

It may have more to do with how unbelievably genetically stupid many people are
