The new generation athletes are able to think what is good for themselves, whereas the older generation athletes were dictated to and controlled by others and were not allowed think for themselves.
There's other competitors who will be thrown off their team, banned from the sport, or maybe even worse. I'm sorry but I can't throw a pity party for someone who collapsed under the pressure of support, while there are competitors competing for their life.
Can we get a renewed focus on mental health in society?
Part of being a 1% athlete, businessman or even a politician is having the emotional strength to compete. If she does nor have it anymore, she is not 1%. And that is fine for her o anyone. A new champion will rise and replace her, as it always had happen
Perhaps we need to go a step further and examine the priorities of a culture that over-glorifies sports.These athletes literally train their entire lives for these competitions. It’s no wonder they have issues, b/c they don’t have balance in their lives. And for what, ultimately?
We celebrate perseverance in this country. Not quitting when things aren’t comfortable
Nothing to do with 'Mental Health' she had one bad run, realised she wasn't good enough to win, and bottled it. Nothing to celebrate or be proud of. She bottled it.
So we only care about mental health when it pertains to a athlete or celebrity
