Analysis: More than two dozen legal thinkers game out what Trump’s new SCOTUS pick means for America’s biggest legal fights, the court’s reputation, the fate of its “swing seat” and more (via POLITICOMag)

going to see dramatic changes in constitutional law within a year. But let’s assume the court stays the same for the next five years .

Everything that is known about Judge Amy Coney Barrett is that she is extremely conservative and will be at the far right of the Supreme Court. She is a self-professed originalist. President Donald Trump undoubtedly picked her because she is a sure vote — and likely the fifth vote — to overturn.

But the concerns with this nomination run far deeper than Barrett’s qualifications, for both institutional and jurisprudential reasons. The institutional concerns pertain to both the U.S. Senate and the Supreme Court itself. Ramming through a nominee at this point exposes the naked hypocrisy of the GOP senators.

When the next justice takes her seat on the bench, the chief justice will wish her a long and happy career in “our common calling.” That phrase will be repeated whenever a justice celebrates a milestone anniversary. United in that common calling, justices make decisions that need to be made, sometimes disagreeing deeply. But they remain friends, ready to face together the next decision required by their common calling.

But either way, all will not be lost. There are currently 15 states with both Democratic legislatures and governors . Those states, and maybe more after Nov. 3, will likely move to cement abortion rights into their constitutions, beyond the Supreme Court’s reach. Having a patchwork of pro- and anti-abortion states is not ideal, but it is preferable to a nationwide ban, only attainable through an unlikely constitutional amendment.

POLITICOMag Looks a little like something out of The Shining

POLITICOMag After today’s largely maskless ceremony, she’ll be AmyCovidBarrett

whyfund POLITICOMag She looks like she is stoned. What is she on?

POLITICOMag BlockBarrett

POLITICOMag If she had any sense of justice and decency or respect for the position she is about to hold she would have not accepted. Given the times and the fact the Justice Ginsburg has not even been buried yet.

POLITICOMag HEY, YOUR HONOR, DID YOU GET A BIG PAYCHECK FROM TRUMP or his stooge Moscow Mitch. to accept this job without the decency of integrity of a grace period, for the honor of the dead?

POLITICOMag Praise Be!

POLITICOMag Judge Barrett was confirmed to the circuit court by a bipartisan vote.

POLITICOMag what kind of a judge takes a job from another judge the day after she died, without a bit of grace perhaps a large sum of money.

POLITICOMag Game out It’s not a game

POLITICOMag Trump and the SenateGOP destroyed the reputation of SCOTUS. It is now just bought and paid for by radical right groups!

POLITICOMag The court is not a representation of America. Despite the changing demographics and the shifting social norms, this court is determined that the power of this nation is controlled by wealthy white men. The nation is now a theocratic oligarchy.

POLITICOMag Amanda Knox crazy eyes.

POLITICOMag When will JoeBiden release his list of SCOTUS nominees? Many of us to NOT want to see any of these people on the U.S. Supreme Court:-- NeverBarackOrMichelleObama NeverHillaryClinton NeverLorettaLynch Obama/Clinton are a bloody disgrace: NeverHarrisBiden for POTUS!!!

POLITICOMag If all who mourned RBG turned their grief into fury to say NO Fascist SCOTUS, we could stop this & drive out the whole regime. Other channels are gone. Our power is in our s & sustained nonviolent protest.

POLITICOMag very clear!

POLITICOMag The right is always talking about term limits on elected officials. Don't hear much about these unelected ones though.

POLITICOMag

POLITICOMag Setting women's rights back 60 years !!!

POLITICOMag This move is going to start to delegitimize a partisan court that tries to rule our lives from a hand full of unelected lifetime appointed hacks. Its what this country needs. Congress needs to do its job and the courts need to be shown for what they are.

POLITICOMag News Flash! Suburban women voters will NOT allow old grey/orange haired dudes like Mitch & Trump to use their reproductive rights as a bargaining chip! If their intention is to fill RBG's spot with a sure vote to kill Roe v Wade, that will awaken the wrath, ire & fury of women!

POLITICOMag I vote for separation of church and state.

POLITICOMag Trump is about to experience the pain & humiliation from a mighty kick in the rear by our 200yr old democracy: packing & leaving the WH, as much as he wants to cling on to power as insurance against all his crimes, real & perceived, only voters decide who lives in the WH.

POLITICOMag Bringing us back in line with the Constitution. Not seeing that as a bad thing.

POLITICOMag She will be seated by the end of October. What Americans will see is DEMS religious bigotry. But no biggie I love celebrating the little wins with a glass of sparkling wine. Thank you Mr. President for a great choice

IAmSophiaNelson POLITICOMag

POLITICOMag Is the neoliberal press so enamored with identity politics, they're incapable of making an enemy out of someone simply because they themselves are a woman? Even if that woman threatens to strip all American women of basic human rights of bodily autonomy and more?

POLITICOMag Why not start with how her and Gorsuch delegitimize the court and how big a deal that is. It might stymie her influence.

POLITICOMag Amy Coney Barrett will help make the USA come back to the Constitution, and make USA a more kind, compassionate nation again. Law will be law. Law will be interpreted as in compliance with the constitution, not legislated or written by the Supreme Court.

POLITICOMag I do not trust her for a minute to do the right thing.

POLITICOMag She’s not going to overturn Roe v Wade. She’s just going to give states the right to gut it.

POLITICOMag The Court's credibility is shot in light of what McConnell has done.

POLITICOMag Judge Serena Joy. A religious zealot who wants to set us back and will judge with her religion guiding her. UnderHisEye BlessedBeTheFruit

POLITICOMag Time to repeal the NFA

POLITICOMag Which is why we need to go there and increase the number of scotus seats to 13 or more. If the GOP wants to play in the gutter, let's pour some righteous rain on them and wash the hypocritical filth away

POLITICOMag She looks like a cult leader. What a disgrace this pick is to the integrity of the United States.

POLITICOMag Legal thinkers is that like useless media

POLITICOMag Any Judge that overlays her/his CourtDecisions based on their personal religious beliefs, like AmyBarrett does, in a Constitutionally SecularState, like the USA, is unsuitable for the HighestCourt in the land

POLITICOMag The woman didn’t have the decency to wait for Ginsberg to be laid to rest before she started measuring herself for her robes.

POLITICOMag She’s going to take away our healthcare!
