'You can’t talk about looting without mentioning how corporate America and the prison-industrial complex loots black communities.' Opinion | cjwerleman

The US puts more of its own in cages than the worst authoritarian regimes on the planet, including China, Saudi Arabia and Iran, with black Americans the primary target of what is objectively a racist criminal justice system.

The prisons bill these corporations for upwards of $3 per hour, a rate well below the federal minimum wage, and then pockets the difference. In fact, you can buy shares in the for-profit prison sector on the stock market by purchasing shares in Core Civic Limited , which manages 65 state and federal correctional and detention facilities throughout the US.

“We have not ended racial caste in America; we have merely redesigned it,” writes Michelle Alexander, a criminal justice lawyer, in her bestseller“Rather than rely on race, we use our criminal justice system to label people of color ‘criminals’ and then engage in all the practices we supposedly left behind.”

Trevor Noah Defends Response to George Floyd’s Death: “Police in America Are Looting Black Bodies”“There is no right way to protest, because that’s what protest is,” The Daily Show host said on Friday. “It cannot be right because you are protesting against a thing that is stopping you' I'm sorry Noah, that is insanely incorrect. People that loot and riot are hurting themselves and the communities that are at the center of it all. Target, Walmart, or whatever are only a portion of the destruction. Do not riot or loot, because your future 'contract' depends on it They are not protesters they are criminals. There is no right way to watch Trevor Noah on the Comedy Channel. I just turn the channel to old reruns of Lenny on Law and Order for laughs!
