To some, this scene in Del Rio, Texas, represents a broken immigration system that opportunistic migrants are taking advantage of. To others, it presents an opportunity for America to once again welcome people in need from around the world. From TPRNews:

On Saturday, less than five miles from the Del Rio International Bridge, a line of Haitians, Cubans and Brazlians, among others, formed outside a convenience store. Some carried a bag or two. Most had nothing. Children clung tightly to their parents.

But many more at the migrant encampment under the Del Rio International Bridge are in limbo, including the thousands of people fleeing Haiti. The island nation experienced massive upheaval over the summer following the assassination of the country's president and a devastating earthquake which killed more than 2,200 people.Migrants seeking asylum in the U.S. bathe in the Rio Grande river, which divides the border between Ciudad Acuna, Mexico and Del Rio, Texas, U.S.

The Biden administration is sending thousands of people from this encampment on planes back to their home countries.. The Trump administration enacted it at the start of the pandemic and began rapidly expelling migrants, claiming it would stop the spread of COVID-19 and Biden has continued it. Long said Biden’s message has been confusing, both trying to be more welcoming to migrants and continuing some of Trump’s hardline immigration policies.

TPRNews To me, it reminds me that millions and millions of us are simply Americans because our parents were. We have no idea what it’s like to want out of a country SO bad, we would be willing to walk hundreds of miles with nothing but the clothes on our back. We are just lucky.

TPRNews I know the immigrants are trying to have a better life, but we cannot deal with obvious breaking of law and are required to turn away those who cannot be accommodated. Sad, but they are being politicalized for Republican power hungry people who don’t really care.

TPRNews We need to give the Statue of Liberty back‼️

TPRNews A couple of thousand Haitans arriving everyday. What a coincidence. Conindinence that took a lot of planning

TPRNews Weren't some Americans out of Miami involved in the assassination of the Haitian president? And all that aid money after the earthquake mostly enriched Americans. Can we trade out Republicans for Haitians on a 1:1 basis?

TPRNews Most narratives about America history has proven untrue, and the idea that America ever welcomed people in need from certain parts of the world is believable only to those who drank the kool-aid

TPRNews If people from Haiti were white, we'd let them in. No one is doing anything to help those starving miserable people in Haiti.

TPRNews The only opportunists are those who don't want an 'Ellis Island' in the southern half of the U.S.

TPRNews The former. Nations borders either have meaning or they don’t. If they don’t than nations have no meaning either.

TPRNews When we have taken care of our veterans, when everyone already here has healthcare, housing and three squares a day, then we can talk about letting others in. We have to be able to take care of those already here first.

TPRNews Wherever they’re from - any human being who survives the peril of desert and jungle crossings with children in tow deserves to get a hearing as to why and how they prevailed.

TPRNews It is both, broken and full of opportunities
