Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Madhouse's animated adaptation of Frieren: Beyond Journey's End has proven to be a hit with anime fans, to the point it recently claimed the top spot on the rankings of both Anime News Network and MyAnimeList, officially marking Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood's multi-year reign. Frieren being able to beat out the legendary series is further evidence of how much of an impact the show had across 28 episodes.
While Fullmetal Alchemist is still immensely popular, enough time has passed for its reception to finally cool. Now that Frieren has also reached the top on Anime News Network, it will be curious to see how long it will hold onto its ranking going forward. Brotherhood, produced by BONES, was first broadcast in 2009, a reboot of the earlier Fullmetal Alchemist from 2003. Both are well-received stories, which tackle themes of power, sacrifice, immortality, and the value of human life in different ways. The newer adaptation holds a partially mythical reputation, representing BONES's efforts to faithfully adapt and complete Hiromu Arakawa's original story, even if it required a whole new anime to accomplish this.
