Hiker lost for 24 hours ignored rescuers' calls because 'they didn't recognize the number'
The hiker was reported overdue at about 8 p.m. on Oct. 18, according to a statement from Lake County Search and Rescue. The person who called said the hiker started at Mount Elbert from the South Trailhead at 9 a.m. and had not returned. The hiker returned home on Oct. 19, more than 24 hours after beginning their hike. The person was not identified.
I have seen this wrong stupid headline at least ten times
Probably thought it was a bill collector. We are all guilty of this.

After 50 or 60 spam calls a day for forever, most of us are trained to not pick up unrecognizable numbers. Yes it sounds funny or stupid but when you’ve gotten what seems like 50 car warranty calls in 4 hours, it’s amazing the phone isn’t launched over a high, rocky cliff.
People like that go through life lost all the time. NEXT.

How about not putting this on the hiker? (S)he likely ignored the calls for the same reason most of us do! Instead, how about the FCC and the comms giants actually does their duty and seriously start cracking down on spoofing and on marketers who willfully ignore DNC lists?

If you call 911 , you may get a call back from a blocked number . If it's safe to do so answer your phone . The Police may need further information or may need to gain entry to your residence. That is not the time to screen your phone calls.
