The space agency is trying to explore the surface of Venus with a rover, something that has never been accomplished before. "With a surface temperature in excess of 840 degrees Fahrenheit and a surface pressure 90 times that of Earth, Venus can turn lead into a puddle and crush a nuclear-powered submarine with ease,"
's Jet Propulsion Laboratory is working on a mission to the fiery planet's surface using an Automaton Rover for Extreme Environments . Read MoreThat's where you can come in. said. The 1st-place winner of the design contest will get up to $15,000, the 2nd-place winner will get up to $10,000, and the 3rd-place winner will get $5,000.Great. What's the catch? "The difficulty of this challenge is in designing a sensor that does not rely on electronic systems,"
More lies from NASA, go figure. How much $ will they steal from taxpayers for this sci-fi story?
I don't think you need a sensor coz there may be malfunction with the AI software controlling the rover. Jell them to design a rover that can be remotely driven; all you need is to use one of the closest satellite to Venus to remotely drive it. That way you are 100% in control.
In your dreams.
Can’t they call the iRobot people? They’ve been making vacuums that do that for years.
Human nature is amazing, spending so much money to explore other planets and space, instead of spending money to find and overcome the poverty, hunger on the Earth
Wouldn't the bigger problem be one that doesn't melt?
I'm your Venus, I'm your fire
ATTENTION TWITTER: NASA needs your help!
They don’t have that technology already? Like, no one saved the schematics from the previous rovers?
Oh cool. I believe in the rover btw, it'll be fine. I hope it finds something interesting tho.
Umm $10k to create something that nobody has even dreamed of is quite the reward.
From the article:'With a surface temperature in excess of 840 degrees Fahrenheit and a surface pressure 90 times that of Earth, Venus can turn lead into a puddle and crush a nuclear-powered submarine with ease,' NASA said. But CNN's tweet thinks avoiding rocks is the big problem.
What a waste of resources
venus is where we go if we live sinful lives . the souls there are screaming for ice water - don't bring it to them ..
Oso272 Tru_SocietyKing here is our shot!! Lol
It should just ask the Mars Rover to explore it. “Red Rover, Red Rover, send Curiosity on over.” nasa check my math on that.
They are going to need more than a new sensor to explore this planet.
Haha, this is Venus folks (not Mars)! Going to need a vehicle and sensor that can withstand being thrown in a smelter.
What has NASA been doing with all that money over the years if they're less technologically advanced than a Roomba?
You mean...
Venus is a star, not a planet
Hola
Well, we're going to need a new planet considering that asteroid coming in November.
I just came here to read comments...
Forget using rovers. WE NEED TO SEND PEOPLE TO MARS.
Sound like y'all about to make something that's almost human
Done and done.
