a two-month long ban on evictions for the Atlanta area. According to the judge, 145 writs of eviction had already been scheduled to be executed in the county, and about 1,650 mre were pending with the local marshal’s office. The federal eviction moratorium was ordered by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention last year to stave off mass evictions amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has since clapped back, calling on the White House to pass the extension despite Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh’s suggestion that it would be a federal overstep. “It is clear that the Senate is not able to [extend the ban], and any legislation in the House, will not be sufficient,” Pelosi said in a

with Majority Leader Steny Hoyer , Whip Jim Clyburn and Assistant Speaker Katherine Clark issued Sunday night. “Action is needed, and it must come from the administration.”

NYC will not be evicting renters... a disaster for small landlords.

Simple fix. Renters who need help, apply to Section 8 (which already exists to help low income). Section 8 housing then pays Landlord directly. Infrastructure /process is already there. Win win. Landlords aren’t left holding the bag like CDC created in the moratorium.

this is terrible news

How you receive money from the government and still don’t pay rent is beyond me.

White House says states, cities must rescue renters after eviction ban lapseThe White House says the CDC lacks the legal authority to unilaterally extend the nationwide eviction moratorium that expired this weekend, shooting down the latest bid to continue the ban Of course the CDC lacks any authority. Who thought they did? Someone needs to act and do it now! As I heard it, it is the Supreme Courts fault it expired. They supposedly ruled in June it could not go past July 31. So blame them Right Wing judges.

What's next for struggling renters now that the eviction ban has expiredThe federal eviction moratorium has expired, and landlords in many parts of the country can officially begin removing people from their homes. Even though more than 3 million people said they were likely to be evicted 'within the next two months,' according to a Census survey from early July, and nearly 5 million renters said they won't be able to pay August rent, that doesn't mean they will be evicted immediately. Plenty of people who never lost their job have been living rent free for over a year. The property owners aren’t charities! Actually, they can’t just “remove” people from their homes. They STILL have to go through the legal system. Because of Covid, it may be awhile. But at least that’ll buy people time, maybe even for the moratorium to be extended. I sure hope so🙏 Well there are plenty of jobs out there. Maybe get one of those.

The White House doubles down and says it can't extend the eviction ban without CongressThe White House on Monday said it couldn't renew a now lapsed eviction ban without Congress, urging state and local governments to prevent evictions on their own. The senate would note vote on it while working on infrastructure. Why should they? Ffs, people need to pay their God damn rent, what about homeowners who have a mortgage? Or *gasp* those evil property owners who have a mortgage that renters help pay? Fuck the anti-rent people who want to live in someone elses place for free.
