Juneteenth has been celebrated since then among Black communities, particularly in the South, often with food, music, games and dancing. The holiday took on added layers of importance this year as it was the first Juneteenth since the date was made a federal holiday, the first since the U.S. began to reopen from the pandemic, and the first since the trial for Derek Chauvin, who wasBiden signed a bipartisan bill into law Thursday that established Juneteenth as a federal holiday, the first new one since President Ronald Reagan made Martin Luther King, Jr. Day a federal holiday in 1940....
