JAKARTA, Indonesia — Intense rains caused a landslide at a coal mine on Indonesia’s Sumatra island that killed 11 miners, authorities said Thursday. The slide occurred Wednesday in a mine tunnel about 20 meters deep at Tanjung Lalang village in Muara Enim district of South Sumatra province, according to National Disaster Mitigation Agency spokesman Raditya Jati.Seasonal rains and high tides in recent days have caused dozens of landslides and widespread flooding across much of Indonesia, a chain of 17,000 islands where millions of people live in mountainous areas or near fertile flood plains close to rivers.

Most parts of Indonesia have entered the rainy season this October. In addition, the La Nina phenomenon in the Pacific Ocean can set off intense rainfall across the islands.

Bad headline. It was not rain that caused the landslide, it was lack of basic excavation safety precautions. Please get it right for the sake of those whose lives were lost to greed.

So sad may Allah rest in peace of them😭😭

Many politicians in the government have links to mining companies and they don't care of companies that broke the laws especially the law that the companies should restore the area after mining. Many people have died from the mines, both the workers and civilians living nearby

Oh my God. So sad because those people are hardworking people. We trust the govt will help the families.
